GMU MEC Entrepreneurial Step Up Program™

The Step Up Program Executive Mentors

The GMU MEC Step Up Program Executive Mentors play a critical role in ensuring the goals of the GMU MEC Entrepreneurial Step Up Program™ are fully achieved. At the start of each six month Phase I Executive Entrepreneur Program, each Executive Mentor will be assigned to work with up to five class participants, typically CEO’s of their respective companies.

The Step Up Program Executive Mentors include senior level experienced entrepreneurs, business consultants and investment professionals with significant experience working with early stage companies. Using an in-depth screening process developed for all Step Up Program applicants, we will ensure an optimum match between Executive Mentors and participants.

Prior to the launch of the Phase I program, an orientation session is conducted for all Step Up Program Executive Mentors. At the session, each Executive Mentor is provided with background information on their assigned companies, typically identifying areas of particular concern to the respective executives and selected company performance benchmarks.

During the monthly Executive Mentor meeting with each assigned company, the Step Up Program Executive Mentors will work with the assigned class participants to review selected Key Performance Indicators (“KPIs”), discuss critical company issues and where appropriate, offer recommendations. These one-on-one sessions complement the classroom sessions and offer class participants the opportunity to work with an experienced business professional who can assist an early stage company in addressing business growth challenges.

On a monthly basis, all Step Up Program Executive Mentors will also meet briefly with the Step Up Program Director and Instructor to share their views on their participants’ progress, identify areas of concern and if needed, suggest areas requiring additional support. The monthly Mentor Review Meeting provides another mechanism to further ensure quality control of the overall program.
